Student Organizations and Activities

Clubs and organizations at Carlow University include social and multicultural groups, service clubs and academic honorary societies. Students have opportunities to work, volunteer or hold leadership positions both on campus and in the Pittsburgh area.

Academic and professional clubs

• The Carlow University Chapter of the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania, part of the National Student Nurses’ Association, does charity and volunteer work and offers educational and leadership opportunities. 
• The Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing supports men in academic and professional roles in nursing.

• The student-produced Carlow Chronicle accepts submissions from students, faculty, staff and alumni. Email: carlowchronicle@carlow.edu
• Alpha Nu Theta, Carlow’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society, hosts benefit poetry readings, game nights, the annual English department Halloween party and volunteer events.
• The Social Work Student Association offers information exchange and involvement in on-campus and local projects. Email: swa@carlow.edu

Cultural organizations

• The Black Student Union aims to enrich African-American culture at Carlow and the community with forums, poetry readings, health fairs and more. Email: bsu@carlow.edu
• LGBT & Allies represents the interests of gay, lesbian and transgender students and the people who care about them. Email: pride@carlow.edu

Leadership and service clubs

• The city-wide chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha unites women from several Pittsburgh colleges. AKA was established by African American college women and promotes service, unity and scholarship. Phone: +1 (412) 578-2026. 
• Alpha Phi Omega is a national fraternity that promotes leadership through service. Email: apo@adzellers
• Best Buddies is open to all undergraduate and graduate students interested in joining a global volunteer group that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program builds friendships between people with and without IDD, offering social mentoring while improving the quality of life and level of inclusion. Carlow’s chapter of Best Buddies coordinates activities with Community Living and Support Services (CLASS) and supports individual matching and/or participating in group activities. In 2022, the Best Buddies Club was awarded State chapter of the month.
• Beta Beta Beta is an honor and professional society for biological science students. Email: bbb@carlow.edu
• The Carlow Future Educators Club (CFEC) is a campus club open to any interested undergraduate, graduate, or apprenticeship student.  The club meets regularly for students to network and attend special training courses or presentations by invited guests.  The club provides professional development opportunities through sponsorship of on-campus, regional, and State conferences and workshops on educational topics of interest.  
• Kappa Delta Epsilon (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, was founded in 1911 to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. For over a century, the Society has consistently grown, starting with a local chapter to become the international organization it is today, with an initiated membership that exceeds 1.2 million. Using a variety of programs, services, and resources, KDP supports and advances educators throughout the phases and levels of their teaching careers.  Membership to KDP is by invitation only.  Inductions are held twice a year, and students receive cords to wear as part of the graduation ceremony from Carlow.  Email: kde@carlow.edu
• Strong Women Strong Girls members mentor local girls in grades 3-5. Email: pittsburgh@swsg.org

Recreational organizations

• Carlow University Theatre Group produces shows in Antonian Theatre with students, guest artists, faculty and staff. 
• Carlow University Theatre Dance Division is student-run and welcomes dancers of all skill levels.
